Patrick Dempsey left the show in Season 11, and McDreamy fans were left devastated. Now, the other half of Calzona, Sara Ramirez, bid goodbye after 10 years of playing Dr. Callie Torres.
Grey’s Anatomy is entering Season 13 and fans are already used to characters dying or leaving town, and they seldom return. Except for this Grey Sloan Doctor.
The Inquisitr wrote that Dr. Callie Torres’ recent loss on Grey’s Anatomy will not be permanent. She might still return to Grey Sloan sometime in the future.
Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy creator, has revealed recently at New York’s Vulture Festival that she only knew that Ramirez is departing the show three days before the latter tweeted the news of her leaving ABC’s medical hit drama.
Rhimes said that there’s a high chance that Sara Ramirez will come back to Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres.
“This one was interesting. It was different because it wasn’t a big, planned thing,” says Rhimes. “I had a different plan going and when Sara came and said, ‘I really need to take this break,’ it was sort of lucky that we had shot the end of the season with her going to New York.”
The Grey’s Anatomy creator also said, “I felt really good that we had shot that ending and that she said she wanted to take this break and we were able to give it to her because I love the woman and I want to do everything for her. It all worked out in that sense.”
On Patrick Dempsey’s departure at the end of season 11, Rhimes said that she wondered why “people make such a nasty deal of that whole thing.” People may never want to see anybody on the show go and want them to stay forever but that won’t do for long-running shows especially Grey’s Anatomy who’s going towards Season 13.
THR wrote that Rhimes expected Sandra Oh, who played Cristina Yang, to leave the show after Season 6 but the actress did it after 10 seasons, and she found it amazing that she lasted that long.
“Because I know what that is for an actor. You grow and change and then you itch for something new … you have to be really respectful of that, said Rhimes.”
When asked on “how long Grey's Anatomy will last”, Shonda Rhimes replied that when Ellen Pompeo goes then she goes too, because without Pompeo, “there is no show.”
Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 will air this fall on ABC, but fans are now looking forward to the possible return of Sara Ramirez to the show.
